Common Myths and Misconceptions About Attic Insulation

It’s hard to improve your house when you there is false information out there. One good example of this are the myths and misconceptions about maintaining the HVAC and insulation system in your house. Once you read or ask about this topic, you’ll be amazed how people fall for such misinformation, especially when it comes to the attic insulation of your house. You can talk to some roofing contractors and you’ll learn how widespread it actually is.

In this article, we discuss the common myths and misconceptions about attic insulation.

  1. It’s Not Just for the Hot Weather

It goes both ways. Attic insulation is used to keep indoor heat in and outdoor heat out. The principle is quite simple to understand. Insulation panels are used to separate the temperature inside from the outside. It’s intended to retain whatever controlled conditions are inside the home.

  1. Attic Insulation Can Seal the Leaks

You can ask your local roofing company during a roof replacement project, but let’s get to it right here: attic insulation cannot seal air leaks. However, special types of methods can be done to seal the whole room. Some of these methods are: spraying foam, installing separate vapor barrier and sealing holes through the use of caulk materials.

  1. The “R-Value” of a Material Is Constant

Don’t be surprised. Some articles or video might have delivered this differently, but the truth about R-Value is that it is a measurement used to rate a material’s resistance to thermal bridging. On the other hand, each insulating material’s R-Value can vary depending on several factors such as exterior conditions, surrounding objects, humidity and more.
