Window

Should You Open or Close Your Windows When It’s Hot?

You can already feel the weather warming up and, in just a few more weeks, it’s going to be even hotter. That said, we need to find ways to help cool our interiors down to make it comfortable for us to stay indoors. One of the ways we do this is by turning the air conditioning on to produce cooler indoor air.

By using an air conditioning unit to lower indoor air temperature, we see a rise in our electric bills. They’re very proportional: the more we use electricity to lower indoor air temperature, the more we see an increase in power consumption and bills.

Many ask if leaving the window open helps cool the house down, or will keeping it shut help lower indoor air temperature? Here are a few things we need to consider before proceeding to a final answer.

How hot is it outside?

Because proper ventilation is thought to result to a cooler home, most people think opening the window helps to cool the home. This is not always the case, however, if the air outside the home is hotter than the air inside the home.

Is your home properly insulated?

If your home is properly insulated, it might be better to keep windows closed. This is because insulated homes are better at keeping outdoor heat out. Insulate your home properly, if it’s not then energy-efficient roofing and windows can help do this. If your roof has some holes or issues compromising your home’s insulation, call your roofing contractor for help.

A little roof repair might be what you need to have a cooler home, especially in summer.

Simply put, the answer to the question of keeping windows open or closed to achieve cooler indoor air varies as it depends on many factors such as proper ventilation, adequate insulation and temperature differences inside and outside the home.

Whether the air inside and outside is warm or cool, proper insulation will help you living comfortably inside your home. Contact Storm Master Construction & Roofing, your leading roof replacement experts, to make sure your roof is properly insulated
